What is the "Slack" tool?

This summer, more precisely on July 13, 2022, the platform launched its instant chat forum "Slack". It is a collaborative communication platform, allowing you to talk (mainly by messages) with each of the subscribers to this exchange space.

If some of you are familiar with the "Discord" tool, "Slack" works in the same way overall. Indeed, "Slack" is based on channels. Each channel corresponds to a public discussion with all users of the "Slack". Thus, a message posted on a channel is visible to all its users. On the "Slack" of the "PRIM community", each channel is dedicated to a discussion topic in order to improve the readability of exchanges. The "Slack" of the "PRIM community" is structured around these different channels:

  • API Route Planners of Île-de-France Mobilités
  • Real-time API
  • GTFS data
  • Static data
  • PRIM Information
  • New datasets
  • New data visualizations
  • Data reuses
  • User Support

In addition, on "Slack" it is also possible to send direct messages to one or more users in particular. In this case, these are private discussions. This feature is open and sometimes used between the "Slack" administrator, i.e. the "contact-prim" account and the portal users. Thus, do not hesitate, if necessary, to send a private message to this account.

The objectives of the implementation of this "Slack"

The objectives of the implementation of this "Slack" are multiple.

Firstly, it is a question of offering users of the PRIM portal local user support with a high level of responsiveness.

Then, this "Slack" of the "PRIM community" makes it possible to inform portal users when new datasets or new datavisualizations are put online.

Promotion on "Slack" of new datasets published on PRIM.

In addition, information about structural changes to the PRIM portal (e.g. API Manager migration) or about temporary anomalies affecting the data (e.g. missing or erroneous data on the GTFS), is also disseminated through this forum.

In short, the main objective of this discussion forum is to federate a community of producers and reusers of the data disseminated on the PRIM portal.
